FFmpeg

This is an important distinction and worth stating plainly: Playarr's own source is MIT-licensed, but the published container images additionally bundle FFmpeg, which is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence version 2 or later. The image as a whole is therefore distributed subject to that licence.

This software uses libraries from the FFmpeg project under the GNU General Public Licence version 2 or later. FFmpeg is a trademark of Fabrice Bellard, originator of the FFmpeg project. Playarr is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or the owner of FFmpeg.

FFmpeg runs on the server as a separate process. It is not embedded in any Playarr client application.

Corresponding source. Anyone distributing a Playarr Server container image must make the exact corresponding FFmpeg source, and the build configuration used, available alongside the binaries. This page is where those links belong, per published image tag. They are not yet published here. If you need them before they are, pleaseopen an issue.

TMDB

TMDB

This website uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB.

This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

The first notice applies to this website. The second applies to Playarr Server and the Playarr apps. Metadata identifiers and artwork reaching a Playarr Server installation may originate with TMDB, by way of the library-management tools it reads from or the metadata sources the operator configures. TMDB is not a partner, sponsor or endorser of this project.

Codecs and patents

Media codecs may be covered by patents in some jurisdictions. Nothing on this site, and no licence granted by this project, conveys any patent rights. Deploying this software commercially, or distributing builds of it, may require a separate patent licence depending on where you are and what you are doing. No claim is made that operating Playarr Server is royalty-free.

Other third-party software

Playarr Server and the Playarr apps include the open-source and vendor components below. Each remains under its own licence, and each project's own licence text applies. Exact versions are pinned in the dependency manifests and lock files in therepository, which are authoritative.

Playarr Server (Rust)

The server is built from Rust crates. The project's licence policy accepts only these licence families: MIT, Apache-2.0 (including with the LLVM exception), BSD-2-Clause, BSD-3-Clause, ISC, Unicode-3.0, Zlib, CC0-1.0, MPL-2.0, NCSA, CDLA-Permissive-2.0 and BSL-1.0. Most are permissive. MPL-2.0 (used by option-ext, for example) is file-level copyleft: changes to the MPL-licensed files themselves must be shared under the MPL. The direct dependencies include:

  • Runtime and web: tokio, tokio-util, futures, async-trait, axum, axum-server, tower, tower-http, reqwest, rustls, rustls-acme, rustls-pki-types, instant-acme, x509-parser

Embedding model

  • The server downloads the all-MiniLM-L6-v2 sentence-embedding model from Hugging Face on first use (model card, ONNX port of sentence-transformers/all-MiniLM-L6-v2). Both model cards state the licence as Apache-2.0 (verified from the cards). The model is not bundled in the image.
