Developer-mode sideload

Install Playarr on your Roku

Keep the Roku and the phone or computer used for installation on the same local network. You will need the Roku remote, the ZIP above and a developer password you create on the TV.

  1. Enable Developer Mode

    On the Roku remote, press Home three times, Up twice, then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. Note the URL shown, enable the Development Application Installer, accept the agreement and create a password. The Roku will restart.

  2. Open the web installer

    From a phone or computer on the same network, open the URL shown on the TV. Sign in with the username rokudev and the developer password you created.

  3. Upload the ZIP unchanged

    Choose Upload, select playarr-roku.zip without extracting it, then choose Install. Roku launches Playarr when the sideload finishes.

  4. Connect Playarr

    Enter your Playarr Server base URL, follow the code shown on the TV to authorise the Roku, then choose a household profile.

Important

Only one sideloaded app can be installed.

Installing another development app replaces Playarr. If Roku rejects an identical version, remove the existing sideloaded app and install the ZIP again.

Developer packages are served only after a release artifact is published. Each client page also includes the dependable build-from-source and sideload path.
