The webOS app packages Playarr's full TV interface, server pairing, remote navigation and playback in an installable IPK for LG televisions.

LG Developer Mode

Install Playarr on your LG TV

Use an LG television running webOS 23 or newer, and keep it on the same local network as the computer. You need an LG developer account, the Developer Mode app, the webOS CLI and either the published IPK above or a package you build from source.

  1. Enable Developer Mode

    Install Developer Mode from the LG Content Store, sign in with your LG developer account, enable Dev Mode Status and let the TV restart. Reopen the app, select Key Server and use EXTEND before the remaining session expires.

  2. Get the Playarr IPK

    Try the package download above. If no release IPK has been published, install Node.js, clone Playarr, install the official webOS CLI and build the package locally.

  3. Connect the TV

    Run the device setup, choose add and name the target playarr-tv. Enter the TV's IP address, port 9922 and user prisoner without a password. With Key Server still enabled, fetch the key and enter the six-character passphrase shown on the TV.

  4. Install and launch

    Run the commands from the tv-web directory for a locally built IPK. If you downloaded playarr-webos.ipk instead, substitute that file's path. When Playarr opens, scan its link code and choose your Playarr Server and household profile in Playarr.

    • ares-install --device playarr-tv apps/tv-webos/out/com.playarr.tv_*_all.ipk

Before you install

Developer Mode installs expire with the session.

Playarr launches as com.playarr.tv. LG removes Developer Mode apps when the session expires, so keep the TV online and use EXTEND before the timer reaches zero. Treat this build as a developer preview until playback, remote, suspend and resume are validated on representative hardware.

Developer packages are served only after a release artifact is published. Each client page also includes the dependable build-from-source and sideload path.
